The erosion of the Pettorina torrent that flows along this gorge, formed over millions of years, has caused its waters to shape the rocks, forming cracks and caves on the rocky walls.
The width of the gorge does not exceed ten meters and streams and waterfalls flow along the walls such as that of Franzei, “La Pisa” which in winter form ice walls known and frequented by mountaineers from all over the world who practice ice climbing.
